Mafia Series

One of the best classics available in market, Mafia has been a great competent to GTA series. But how far have they succeeded? My answer would be Mafia has completely overthrown GTA. Mafia: City of Heavens was released in 2002, the same time period when GTA came up with GTA 3 and Vice City. When GTA deals with cars and weapons of modern world, Mafia lets you play in an awesome atmosphere of the 1930's. You have cars which are slow, low powered and old tech which are infact a joy to play with the Music tracks. Now if you have played Mafia, its music tracks will be in your brains forever. So old weapons, old cars, old people, old cities and an old world, but Mafia still keeps you as thrilling as a game can make you.
Mafia : City of Lost Heaven is the first of its series, which was a huge hit. Playing as a Taxi driver in the beginning, Tommy Angelo gets dragged into the world of Mafia. The story sequences are simply brilliant. You get to meet various Mafia lords, do work with them and turn against them. It touches your heart at times when relation mean nothing in that world. The game is fun to play considering that there are several minute details such as your vehicle may run out of fuel, you have to pick locks of cars before stealing, you cant run off red lights neither can you drive fast(for which cops will fine you) which are not found in common games. All these details give a feeling of reality to the game. So, if you ask me what comes to my mind when I think of the game, I would point out two things. One would be the sound track, the second would be the 'smoking' graphics.
After the huge success of Mafia : City of Lost Heaven, a couple of weeks back, Mafia 2 has been released. Its a huge leap the previous version. The graphics has gone up really high, so has the environmental details. Character development has been done really well. The game revolves around different seasons, where you have winter, spring and monsoon. All these seasons have been depicted brilliantly. The story has been tailored beautifully but the game tends to be of short length. Nevertheless it doesn’t effect the joy of playing the game. Again this is a story which depicts that Mafia and Relations do not go together. The hand to hand combat has improved well, so has cover attacking. Tommy guns would still be favorite for any game enthusiast.
This is a must pick game for any gamer, you will enjoy the music, enjoy the bloodshed, and enjoy the emotions.
Finally I would like to put a note on how it worked on my laptop the HP Pavilion dv6000 with specs

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @2.00 GHz
  • 3.00 GB Ram
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard(64 bit) edition
  • NVIDIA Gefore 8400M GS - 1518 MB(256 Dedicated)
  • 150 GB Hard Disk
It worked pretty fine on low Graphic setting and a resolution of 800x600. The Fps can get quite crappy at times, but the game is still playable ! :)
