Call of Duty : Black Ops

Black Ops : Has been the mantra of every Gamer since its announcement on April 30,2010. Call of Duty series had been a huge hit! With Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 gripping every gamer to the peak of excitement(which did not last for long). Black Ops has to an extent covered up the main drawback of these games, i.e. a very short Campaign. Black Ops has a rather lengthier gameplay than its predecessors.

The game menu portrays the theme behind the story, you have an interactive menu seen through the eyes of a captive -- Mason, which is the main character of the story. A couple of interrogators keep questioning Mason, the loading screens have been designed with Mission Description wonderfully. The game revolves around the 60's, with a level heading back to the end of World War 2. The story mainly revolves around two characters -- Mason and Reznov, which brings about a huge twist in the story at the end of the game. The other characters are CIA agent Hudson and Weaver. You play as all these characters, and might lose track of the story. I almost forgot what the story was midway and had to go online to catch up. The story has been knitted together beautifully, but might get confusing at places. The story revolves around a biochemical weapon - Nova which was captured by a few 'bad people' - Drakovich, Kravchenko and Steiner, and ofcoz the pursuit for these people.
The gameplay, as always is awesome! You get to drive a Bullet(which is awesome), and get a feeling of driving away in a car rained by bullets. Lots of stealth action to do, lots of shooting, and something new-- riding a helicopter(partially) and lots of everything! But the game is not as gripping as Modern Warfare, or its sequel. The main reason -- too many bugs on the PC version, that you think when you get stuck somewhere that it's a bug, when actually you just need to fight through(Which is hard). Most of the levels have infinite enemy spawn, and you have to push through until you save at some checkpoint. Certain missions are unclear as well, where you would totally get ambushed by enemies, when all you have to do is topple a barrel of fuming napalm. I don't know if I'm the only one who felt it, but the game went boring for me. I actually lowered the difficult to "Recruit" to complete the game -- just to know the story. And the game had quite a lot happening at the end, so was not disappointed at the end.
What did I like? -- The walk through the Pentagon, the Bullet Ride, the Helicopter fury, the story and the Climax. And of course the addon Zombie mod! This time around, instead of fighting off Nazi zombies as some nameless soldiers, you can take on the roles of John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Robert McNamara or Fidel Castro as they fight to hold off the hordes in the Pentagon.
What did I not like? -- The bugs, infinite spawn, and a bit twisting storyline.
Overall, the graphics and sound effects have been awesome, a few levels are gripping(but most are not). Finally I would like to put a note on how it worked on my laptop the HP Pavilion dv6000 with specs

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @2.00 GHz
  • 3.00 GB Ram
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard(64 bit) edition
  • NVIDIA Gefore 8400M GS - 1518 MB(256 Dedicated)
  • 150 GB Hard Disk
It worked pretty fine on low Graphic setting and a resolution of 800x600. In fact it worked as fine as Modern Warfare, so its definitely playable, and enjoyable!

  1. I have the Xbox 360 edition, and it's awesome. Tied between playing the campaign, multiplayer and zombie modes at the moment - lots to do! This will keep me going for a while. :)
