Portal 2

It has been a while since I've got hands on a nice game that works fine on my Laptop. Gave a try on Shift Unleashed 2, but my lap could not handle its awesomeness. So recently I gave a shot to Portal 2. I've never heard of this genre before, but saw a lot of buzz for its release all over Facebook. I read on its reviews on Internet, and its gameplay was quite unique, with more importance to puzzles. I thought I'l give a shot to it, and it turned out to be a really good game! The game has wonderfully designed and crafted, apart from Puzzle solving, the whole game is extremely fun. Lots of comic comments, and strong twists in the story make it all the more gripping experience. This game is a completely new genre(Atleast for me), and I should say I have enjoyed the game a lot. Guess I have to give a shot on Portal!

Portal 2 is all about solving puzzles. No shooting, no blood, no gore - all you have is a Portal Gun, of which you can make two portals and jump through those. Previously I used the Portal idea in the game Diablo 2. But never knew 2 portals could make infinite possibilities make a reality. For example just give a look at the figure given.
A player uses the magnitude of the momentum gained by gravitational acceleration through the blue portal to cross a wide gap out of the orange portal. This is just one possibility, Portal Gun combined with certain gels(Blue, Orange, Yellow) creates a whole new perspective of puzzle solving. Propulsion Gel(Orange) that boosts Chell's speed as she crosses a surface, and Repulsion Gel(Blue) that allows her to jump from a surface and Conversion Gel(White), allows any surface coated with it to accept portals.

So what's new on Portal 2? Is it only Puzzle solving? NO! Portal 2 integrates an awesome Character play, sound track, gripping story, Decent graphics and lot more! The whole game is fun with Comic comments all the way. The game has twists and turns as well, and a nice Farewell song at the end. The puzzles are comparatively easy, but you can get stuck at places. This game is highly rated, and the gameplay has kept up with it. Here is the end credits combined with a pretty good farewell song -

Now getting on to how the game looks. The graphics is pretty awesome, world details and characters done really good. The music and soundtracks are excellent! And the character voices are done brilliantly. Finally I would like to put a note on how it worked on my laptop the HP Pavilion dv6000 with specs
  • Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @2.00 GHz
  • 3.00 GB Ram
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard(64 bit) edition
  • NVIDIA Gefore 8400M GS - 1518 MB(256 Dedicated)
  • 150 GB Hard Disk
I doubted in the beginning whether the game would work on my laptop, but to my surprise at a resolution of 1024x768, the game worked real smooth. Eventhough I could not admire the game in full throttle, it was enough to enjoy the whole game!
