Sorry Shaktimaan, ten years ago a Mantra, now a Joke

When I was back in 8th std, I always used to prepare myself for the mega event every Sunday at 12pm. Yes, it was Shaktimaan time. From the initial ringing bell, to Sorry Shaktimaan, everything would still be in every mind. It was the trend back then, the first super hero of India. The action, comedy, horror, values, etc. shared in the serial really had an effect on the kids back then. There had been unfortunate incidents wherein kids jumped off from buildings with a hope that Shaktimaan would save them. This proved the influence he had on kids. He has a wikipedia entry too! Read it here - Shaktimaan
Such incidents provoked the makers of Shaktimaan to add a value based session. And thus Sorry Shaktimaan happened. At the end of every episode, Shaktimaan would teach the kids not to do something, and tell them the reason. Tehero(Stop), was another highlight. Kids used to trust him, and take up the values shared in those episodes. Yes, he was a hero... but is he anymore?

Mullaperiyar Dam, how it effects common man

This article is written by me(Vinesh Balan), a Keralite living in the district Ernakulam, which is also threatened to be flooded if the disaster happens. This article might be biased to the thoughts of Keralites, so if you disagree, leave a comment sharing your thoughts.
Read my review on Dam 999 here - Dam 999, and the Mullaperiyar Dam issue

Previously I had written on how Mullaperiyar Dam, how it effects common man's thoughts. Here I would like to share an even more specific article - on how it effects common man. Now what question is that? Hasn't it been a burning issue for millions of lives? Ain't that supposed to effect common man? Yes, that would definitely effect common man, but then, the immediate effect makes things worse.
To give a direct inference to the situation, last week one of my friends at Bangalore texted me this - All buses from Bangalore to Kerala via Tamil Nadu has been cancelled. I have no idea how I would get home for holidays. Now this was a point when it directly effected us. A dozen check-posts at Kerala-TN border has been closed by different political parties and local(of Tamil Nadu, as reports say). And as the result? Is this what we(Keralites) wanted?
The Mullaperiyar Dam is getting old, and yes the movie Dam 999 has spilled anxiety in every Keralite. The issue escalated, Social networking added fuel to it. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are two states with a very cordial relationship. In fact, lots of them has friends in and out, and its sad to see people, who were once family, fight over such an issue. It is said that The next world war would be for Water, and if there is any truth in it, it has begun.

Social Networking, now its Microsoft's turn?

First it was Orkut, then Facebook, then Google plus. Is Microsoft having thoughts to get into this mess now? Well, Microsoft is almost a part of Facebook and you can see it with Facebook closely related to Bing. Recently, Facebook has also been using Bing's translation mechanism to translate Facebook comments.
I remember around 5 years ago, our school had a craze for a site called Think.com. I do not know if this site exists now, but back then, it was fun for us. With Orkut reigning the Social network(back then), this site was a change from the normal process. The theme of the site was Education, though. The site was meant to create a social network within the school, and share, learn and enjoy. School authorities had a control on whatever we did in there.
Now why am I mentioning it? Microsoft is coming up with a similar service as well. Called as So.cl(pronounced Social), this site has the aim of combining web browsing, search, and social networking for the purposes of learning. As for now, this service is available only to certain universities, however, you can request access for you Universit/School as well! You can find a detailed FAQ out here - Faq.

Batman Arkham City - PC

Ah! Another sweet game! It's been a while since I involved myself to blogging and gaming. But this game is too good to be ignored(as always). The first installation of the series - Batman Arkham Asylum, was an instant hit(atleast for me). With "top of the shoulder" view being a win-win, and a particularly unique combat system, made me enjoy the game all over.
This game has a new attraction to it - Catwoman. You get to play as Catwoman at some sequences of the story, wherein you go to rescue Batman, or do her normal job. But after you complete the game, you get to play as Batman and Catwoman to explore the Arkham City to complete Riddles and lots of sub plots. The main story involves with the commencement of Protocol 10, apparently a mysterious plan to take over Gotham City. Batman is not sure who is behind this plan, and as the game continues, the story unveils quite a lot. It involves surprise and suspense, making the game all the more enjoyable.

Barking dogs seldom bite, not always true. A message to Kapil Sibal

One among the popular comic pics
Kapil Sibal, Indian Telecom Minister, has been all over news(and blogosphere) for the past week. The reason? I don't think anyone reading this would be unaware of it. He(along with Indian Govt.) wants to pre-screen content put into Facebook, Google and Yahoo!. In short, the Indian Govt. wants content to be approved before going to the public. This has caused widespread disturbance on all sorts of Indian internet users. Tweets, Facebook messages, and even new comic sites have sprung into action on this cause.
People question their right to freedom of expression. And in a way, its totally right. But, I totally agree with the approach of Indian Govt. in certain circumstances. For example, the pics that spread in Facebook which severely damaged religious sentiments. Those should be definitely removed, no excuses. I think the way Kapil Sibal pointed out these situations went totally wrong, or I should say the approach of Indian Govt. on this issue, was totally wrong.

My first cheque, for doing what I love

October 24, 2009 - After having a disappointing year in the Virtual World(with Lockerz owing a huge percentage), I thought to enter a whole new world of blogging. In the beginning, it never seemed so interesting, neither did I know there would be much to it. Nevertheless, I put forth my first post : My first post(which was actually an article I wrote for R3B00T, thanks to Gibu). But it never took my interest, it was just another installment for my online activities.
But then came the Campus Recruitment Season, I, being a Placement Cell member, tried to share whatever info I had. And thanks to Shammi, and his Orkut community, the posts related to TCS and recruitment started gaining attention. In fact, I came to know that my blog started catching up in other colleges as well. Thanks to Akshita, and all other friends who spread the word. That was the beginning. The beginning when I realized the fact that I love having attention, and it comes by when you do something for others. There was no looking back then. Facebook, along with thousands of my friends on the network, helped me keep upto date with Technology(mainly) and other relevant concerns. Special thanks to Engadget and Mashable too.

Dam 999, and the Mullaperiyar Dam issue

Do read my previous article on Mullaperiyar issue here - Mullaperiyar Dam, how it effects common man's thoughts
Got a chance to watch the controversial Dam 999 movie today. All this time I was wondering on why the movie was banned in Tamil Nadu, and why Tamil Nadu is forcing the Supreme Court to ban the movie in India. Now I guess I do have an idea, but I'm still sticking to the fact that - its just another movie.
The movie as expected, revolves around the issue of Mullaperiyar. And contrary to the rumors that Dam 999 rigged the protests in Kerala, I opine differently. The movie has a romantic setup, with the Dam issue not much focused  It sticks around the love of a couple, who were separated by fate. Kerala's culture, beliefs and customs have been beautifully portrayed in the movie. And I should say the Dirty politics have been well crafted too!

When Mumbaikars shake a leg at CST [Video]

How would it be when a girl comes out of nowhere and starts dancing at a crowded public place? That's what happened at Mumbai CST station recently. I don't think I need to specify more details. Watch the video, and enjoy the spirit of Mumbaikars!
*Wishes something like this happens in my place too!*

Mullaperiyar Dam, how it effects common man's thoughts

This article is written by me(Vinesh Balan), a Keralite living in the district Ernakulam, which is also threatened to be flooded if the disaster happens. This article might be biased to the thoughts of Keralites, so if you disagree, leave a comment sharing your thoughts.
Read my review on Dam 999 here - Dam 999, and the Mullaperiyar Dam issue
Check out how the issue effects us directly - Mullaperiyar Dam, how it effects common man
"Where can I learn to swim?" that was a question that made a roar of laughter burst out. But what's so funny in it? The situation made it funny(ironic). We were having our lunch in the office, and the talk for the day was - What if Mullaperiyar dam breaks down. The responses were overwhelming, here are a few.
  - It'll take 2 hours to reach here(the water to reach Ernakulam Dist.), start the bike and scorch off to Kalady(which supposedly won't be flooded).
  - It would be fun! Everyone would be happy because all would be dying!
  - Get ready with Cycle tubes
  - Let it happen on weekends, atleast I will be at home
These are a very few. I would love to compile a whole section of Mullaperiyar Jokes in future. Well, my doubt it, if the situation is so threatening, why is common man taking it lightly?
To all those wondering what the commotion is all about, Mullaperiyar dam, is a 116 year old dam, rumored to succumb any day due to its weak infrastructure. And if it happens, its rumored that the water flowing out the dam would engulf 4 districts of Kerala, and release a spurge of epidemics to the other mortals. You can read all about it here - Mullaperiyar Dam
Now there is a row between the states Kerala and Tamil Nadu, which have been prevailing for more than 20 years(I guess). But never before had it been so intense. With the help of Facebook, Media, and ofcourse the movie Dam 999, the issue has escalated to immense height. Facebook, I should say had a major role in creating such a commotion(I don't know if I can term it as a commotion). However, this pic portraying Kerala before and after the disaster has spun the mindset of thousands of Keralites, and Indians into the issue. The main effect has been on the minds of the youth(who normally stay away from such issues being helpless). Facebook has given them a perfect platform to spread the news like a wildfire(whether its true or not). The same happened in many things being popular - whether its Kolaveri or the Santhosh Pandit effect

If Dhanush can do Kolaveri, why not Santhosh Pandit?

Its been a month to a month I've been hearing about Santhosh Pandit(non-keralites, just Google his name. You can think of the mallu version of Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black). This sensation is going crazy all over news channels, Youtube, Facebook, theaters - name it. Apparently, lot of Fans Associations are also coming up(Wonder why!). Watched a couple of his interviews, but now really fed up of the gaga going over.
However since a week, there is a new tone going all over India - Why this Kolaveri? - quoted as the National Anthem of teenagers by a newspaper report. What's so great in the song? A song with exposes the Tamil version of English? a.k.a Tanglish? I read somewhere that the lyrics was written by an 18year old teen. I have no offense on the song, or the creators - even I enjoy the music a lot(it never gets off my tongue), but I was wondering something, and let me jot it down the best way I can.

Plants vs. Zombies

This might not be a high end scorching game, nevertheless a game for fun(which is what games are meant for!). This game, which has no high end graphics, neither diverse gameplay, is pure fun for people of any age(yeah!). I first played this game on Samsung Wave II(thanks to Noufel), but never thought it would be so addictive. I know its too late to write this article, but I can't stop myself sharing the fun!
To master this game, all you need to know is the basics. Rest is strategy(if I can term it like that). You decide how to make your Plants fight the Zombies. The aim is simple, you have a set of attacking plants(which live on Solar power), and using these resources, you have to protect your house from the Zombies. Or else, Zombies eat your Brains!. This is how the basic layout looks(which changes over the levels)

Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3 PC Campaign

Ah! Its been a while since I wrote anything about games, but this is one of those franchisees which I cannot miss. Call of Duty, have been playing since the 2 installation, i.e., Call of Duty 2. I played it first on my PS2, an instant hit I should say. The next entries kept the glam of the game, and the obvious Call of Duty 3 was a hit too.
Then there was a whole new shift in the game series with the launch of Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare. This game gave importance to dramatic twists in the game, making it more like a movie shot. And what this game had started on, led to the huge success of Modern Warfare 2, and now Modern Warfare 3.
The story line, is the essence of the whole game. The anxiety and tantrums Modern Warfare 2 let lose, flows imminently in Modern Warfare 3. The game picks up right from the point where Modern Warfare 2 ends. I'm not putting up any spoilers here. But if you have never played this series, pick up Modern Warfare, finish it off, then move to Modern Warfare 2, and then Modern Warfare 3. Its a must play game for any sort of gamers out there.

Free SMS, Local and International - from your Phone number! JaxtrSMS

Update The app works fine! The messages are getting delivered, and the UI is looking pretty sleek too! However, had message delivery issues for BSNL, or in other words, messages were never delivered to BSNL network. But other networks work fine! Tested for Tata Docomo, Vodafone and Airtel.

Sabeer Bhatia, the founder of Hotmail.com, has come up with another innovative app for Mobile phones(of all platform - Android, J2ME, Symbian, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7). JaxtrSMS is a mobile app available for various platforms, and provides certain intuitive features which would definitely be helpful specially in India(with the TRAI regulations around)
JaxtrSMS, unlike any other SMS app, literally simulates the SMS services. Most apps providing such functionality requires the app to be installed on both sender and receiver phones. But this does not have such requirements. Install it on your phone, and send a message as if its being sent from your Phone number. The receiver would receive it in his Inbox(as any other SMS), or in JaxtrSMS(if its installed).

SICK I Just Hate Rihanna After Watching This Video - Another Facebook Spam

A facebook spam is firing up now, and it has something to do about Rihana. It looks like this.

Tablets with Wi-Fi in Bangalore Volvo Buses!

Surprise! Boarded the bus today morning, and I seriously thought it was a dream! In front of every seat was an Android Tablet - an EAFT Magic Tile, with free Wi-Fi!
Its been only a few months since I've been to Bangalore, and Volvo buses are the main course of travel in the area of ITPL. Its comfortable travelling in those buses(compared to the local ones), but I never thought it would have these luxuries. With the launch of Metro service, free Wi-Fi services in Metros caught my attention, but I have never been there yet. But this feature, has certainly gone beyond expectations. Who would expect to have tablets in a public bus(that too in India) with free Wi-Fi services?

A Tribute to TCS - I Quit, Part 2

Read my whole experience at TCS here - My life with TCS - a Walkthrough
This is a continuation of my post - A Tribute to TCS - I Quit, Part 1
Last Thursday, I made a brief post on the decision I made regarding TCS. I thought I would give more details once the whole procedure is over. Sadly, its not over yet. The documentation process you did during joining, should be reversed over here too.

So to those wondering how it is done, here you go.
Process
  1. First you have to find the person to contact for Resignation. Login to your Ultimatix account(TCS Portal), go to HR Managemement - > Employee Self Service - > Workflow. You will get the name and email id of the person to contact for the same.
Put in a mail to the person, and he will get back to you soon via phone and email to redirect you to the further procedures(Make sure you include your phone number in the mail).
  2. After getting the details of the new person, go and meet him/her. In my case, she asked me a few questions, like Why leaving? etc. Then would talk about the details of release. There are two important things to keep in mind before release
    • A month's prior notice, or else you will have to pay the basic pay of the rest of days. i.e., for example you want to leave the company on Nov 14, and you inform it at the beginning of the month(Nov 1). So the basic pay of Nov 14 to Nov 30 should be paid(Close to Rs.500 per day). This is not required if you make the notice one month in advance.
    • Service agreement(if you are in Bond period). This amount should be paid as a DD. Even if you have made a Fixed Deposit, that amount would be returned to you within two days.
  3. After this meeting, you will be asked to take an Exit Interview on you account in Ultimatix.
  4. Then you have to meet another person, who would give you certain forms to be filled(PF transfer/withdraw, Correspondence details etc.)
That's it!

Hope you have read my previous post on how the Post ILP was - Read it here -
TCS ILP - a makeup that thrills freshers?
Joined my base branch Bangalore on September 12, 2011, and its been almost 60 days since I've reached here. There are no records of my existence in Bangalore TCS though! The 90 days gave me a lot of thoughts - what should I do? am I wasting myself? Can I do something?
So in quest to solve these, I went on in search of more opportunities. Have lot of cousins working around in the IT field, and referrals were quite easy to get. And I got one, in a company I never heard before - Kalkitech. I went through the interviews, both in Kochi and Bangalore, and bingo! I got an offer over there. The package and bond details held me back a bit. But one question pushed me into it - What have I got to lose?
Twenty days of intense conflicts with family and relatives, and ofcourse within burning head. And finally I decided - I Quit.

Chit Chat for Facebook

Facebook is the most common social networking site used all over the world especially in America and Europe. Friends share their every single feeling with one another. Pictures, videos, status, comments and chat are the basic features of the Facebook. You can chat with your lot of friends at a time but the only problem in this chatting feature of the Facebook is that you will have to open the Facebook page on your browser to continue the chat. This continuous opening of the browser can be quite hectic. Luckily we have been blessed by the technology, and nothing is impossible when the computer technology is with you. To solve this problem of chatting, a brilliant software has been launched which is named as chit chat for Facebook.  This evolutionary Facebook software application has made Facebook chatting as simple as messenger chatting.

Ra.One Review

Ra.One(aka Random Access One), that has been the talk of the week. With Diwali firecrackers, launched the firecrackers of Ra.One. Oh sorry, guess I should say those crackers were launched long back, it found its target on Diwali. Promo something SRK has overdone for this movie. And if you ask me how good the movie is, I would say the only negative in it is -Promo.

Story
A typical video game scenario. Mr. Shekar(Shahrukh Khan), is a game designer and a big joke for his son. This character reminds me of Gangadhar(of Shaktiman, aka Gangadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri), the cover of the real superhero. His son asks to create a game in which the Villain is more powerful - or the Villain is kick-ass! So does he, and the game promo becomes a huge event. Not until he realizes that Ra.One, the Villain who can evolve by itself has come out of the game to chase Lucifer(Pratheek, Shahrukh's son's game name). And why chase him? Because he was the only one who beat Ra.One in Level one, and no one beats Ra.One. Ra.One wastes no time in killing Shekar(which was quite a surprise) Pratheek soon realizes the only way to defeat Ra.One is to bring in G.One(The Good One) to life. And hence starts the battle. Before the end battle, G.One mingles with the family, to give some emotional moments.

BSNL site hacked by Pakistani Hacker "KhantastiC haX0r"

I never had a good feeling about the BSNL sites, it always looked crappy and ill protected. And here it happens, the site has been hacked by a Pakistani Hacker who calls himself/themselves "KhantastiC haX0r". Thanks to Mukul Balodhi for sharing this on Facebook. Here is how the page http://bsnl.co.in/tender1/(Now down) looks. Windows XP turns 10, still rocking!

I still remember the days when I got my first PC, it was 8 years ago(yeah, I know it was too late! But my parents never let me own one!). Back then my soul purpose of owning a PC was to play Grand Theft Auto 2. Awesome game it was back then, and I do remember how excited I was to get hands on Grand Theft Auto 3. The first Operating System installed in my rig was Windows 98, considered to be the most stable one back then(and it was for quite a long)

But then we had a popular trend, having dual Operating Systems - Windows 98 and Windows XP. So I put in Windows XP, and it looked really good(compared to retro looking Windows 98). That combo stayed for a while, and I believe I had it till 2007! Then I threw out Windows 98 and Windows XP was the lone ruler. Then came Windows Vista, with deceptive looks - it was a utter failure. My desktop kept running Windows XP.

Santhosh Pandit tops charts at Virteacon too!

Guess people in Kerala are going wild over Santhosh Pandit, hope the release of movies Ra.One, Velayudham and Ezham Arivu stalls the attention. Even though Ra.One reviews don't read so good, I believe it would get the money it deserved atleast.
Couple of days back, I had published a post - What's happening to Kerala Film Audience? Santhosh Pandit?. Apparently its been topping my stats since then. Take a look of my Weekly stats

Anonymous brings down Child Pornography, now they Good?

Anonymous, a group of hackers running down the spine of hundreds of organisations. Beginning with the take-down of PSN Network, the group has claimed a lot of illustrious actions. These also include hacking mails of Government officers, and the popular warning of "Operation Facebook". According to Operation Facebook, Facebook will be destroyed on November 5. We'll have to wait and see the credibility of the claim.
But apparently Anonymous has turned to get some public appreciation. They revamped their Enemy Number One as Freedom Hosting a Hosting service infamous for Child Pornography. Here is what Anonymous had to say.
"By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites, among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date containing more than 100GB of child pornography” - Anonymous
Definitely a work to be appreciated. As Blogger Weston McCready says,
Where the government fails, leave it to a group of hackers to succeed

Four alternatives to access Facebook chat

Facebook has some how integrated with your browsing nowadays. Everything you do is co-related to Facebook. I was even wondering when Facebook would overtake the Search world. However, with Google trying to snap its hands on Yahoo! that would be a bit difficult.
We all use Facebook chat, but ever thought if it could be used via a messenger or some independent platform? Well, here are a few suggestions.

Rockmelt
This is not exactly a standalone messenger or software. Its a customized version of Google Chrome - exclusively for Facebook users. Everything in this browser revolves around Facebook, search, sharing, sidebar apps. It has also Facebook Chat integrated with it. Which is quite useful too. I'll be concentrating on the Chat section here, for the rest you can read this -- Rockmelt - the Next Gen Social Web Browser

What's happening to Kerala Film Audience? Santhosh Pandit?

Read this - Santhosh Pandit tops charts at Virteacon too!
Santhosh Pandit seems to be the next big thing in Malayalam Film industry nowadays. Who is he? To the unknown, I would say he is the Justin Bieber of Kerala - and I should say even a 1000 time worse. And apparently, such people get more attention that really good ones. Pity that they get the attention, but does it mean to grab attention - people would do anything? And the audience would accept such atrocities. Take a look at the following album(whether you understand the language or not, doesn't really matter), and you'll know what this guy is capable of.

You're Welcome OR Your Welcome?

I've been in a dilemma for quite a long. Whenever someone comments in my Blog, while typing down a note of welcome, I always do it like this - Your Welcome. But it sounded odd to me, to be on the safe side, I always used the alternatives - The pleasure is mine, Glad to help etc. I've been in this confusion for months now, and never bothered to Google it.
Well, today was the day. Finally I decided to break the ice. So I Googled Your welcome. And Tada! The first result made me LOL! Take a peek -

[Poll] Blogger's Corner - How often do you check your stats?

I've been blogging for close to a year now, and quite addicted to it. If you are a blogger, you would know that the Blog Stats can glue you to the screen far more than Facebook. To all others, bloggers and site owners are quite frantic about the views their content get. They ponder on the viewers stats, which includes the country, platform, which post etc.
Now why do people do that? Sheer anxiety? Or maybe you can say its to know how well your content is being spread/read. That's what counts for a blogger eh?
For example my Blog stats for today(21st Oct 2011) would look something like this.

Travelling? redBus the best Online Ticket Booking System

Recently I've come into the world of travelling to, Trivandrum, Kochi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Mysore - I've visited them all in the span of 2 months. And with travelling came the requirement of making travel arrangements. The only portal I knew before was IRCTC, which of course was for Railways. To book tickets, I had to call upon my uncle who knew a travel agent to hook me up with a bus.

Then I came to know about redBus from one of my friends. And it was the first bus booking portal I've seen. In the beginning, I did not really trust in the way it works. But with a few travels done, I can say this is one of the best Online Ticket Booking system in India. All you have to do is go to the link redBus.in, give your From and To locations, along with date of journey and hit on Searh.

What's so SIRI-ous about iPhone 4S?

Though the iPhone 4S was disappointing to thousands of fans expecting the iPhone 5, it has some breathtaking features built into it. You can find the list of specs here - Apple introduces iPhone 4S. Everyone is talking about Siri on this machine, and to anyone who has no idea of what it is - read more about it here.
Awesome right? Well, here is the official demo for the Siri.

Amidst the giant wars, Yahoo! loses its place - Yahoo! for sale!

Facebook and Google, that's the only things happening in Internet nowadays. Facebook, with a lot of new additional features, is looking all set to be unrivaled in the industry. But Google won't let them do it easily either. In all other fields too Google and other giants have a war. Amidst all these, there is something that have disappeared its charisma. Yes, its Yahoo! - one of the best in the yester years.
Yahoo! was one of my favorites a few years ago. I believe Yahoo! was the first one to provide customized home pages to its users. And definitely its mail services were one of the best. Yahoo! was also once the main competitor for Google in search engine world, which apparently does not look to exist. Anyways, Yahoo! has been on news recently - for all wrong reasons. The CEO Carol Bartz was fired recently, for not keeping up in the market. Followed by a tag on Yahoo! - For Sale.

Fifa 12 -- PC

And here it is once again, another FIFA franchisee which seldom disappoints hardcore fans. Release on September 30,2011, this game promises a lot of fun. Casual gamers might not find lot of differences between FIFA 11 and FIFA 12, but there are lots of hidden twists and tweaks done to make the game look beautiful.

What's New?
To begin with, EA Sports have been playing around with the menu buttons since FIFA 11, and they have done a pretty good job here too. With short motions of Kaka doing a variety of trick moves, its fun to simply explore the menus. If you have begun with the game, you might have noticed the focus of change in the game. Its Defense. Defense has become more tactical and precise in this game. You no longer can easily dispossess your opponent and run through, it requires precise motions and containment now. A pretty good tutorial in integrated into the game, which won't be difficult to follow.
The biggest headache in FIFA 11 was the control configuration, which has been resolved in this version. You can now customize your controls in Game Settings according to your wish. And then if you explore the Game Settings, you can find out certain new parameters in there as well. Some of them are

In Memory of Steve Jobs, apple are Giving Away 1000 iPad 2's - Facebook Scam

Again, spammers take advantage of situations, however sick it is. This one is adding to the list of very few Spams I have posted on. Steve Jobs death is the recent hot news, and Scammers won't let him rest in peace either. A spam message has been spreading out in Facebook, in fact there is an event up for it as well.
Clearly a scam, NO ONE is giving out free stuff for a great man's death. Please give a thought before spreading such stuff. Here are the pages you get into on clicking the links.

Phelps Clan says Jobs gave God no glory & taught sin

People always try to take advantage of situations. But this turns out to be a bit to extreme. Margie Phelps, of the  infamous Westboro Baptist Church has come up with a couple of stern tweets against Steve Jobs.
Margie Phelps, tweeted these lately here. In fact, there are a few more tweets, and he mentions that God created iPhone for that purpose. Now for a question why? People have unanimous answers, to gain popularity in the wrong way. Here is how wiki defines WestBoro Baptist Church
The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is an independent Baptist church known for its extreme stance against homosexuality[1] and its protest activities, which include picketing funerals and desecrating the American flag.
This does not come in good reason, hope it doesn't go worse. RIP Steve Jobs, your place is certainly in heaven - without doubt. And to mark his words, watch the most inspirational speech he gave below.

Cheapest Indian tablet Aakash to be available at $50

India had promised a 35$ Tablet couple of years ago, well it has become a reality now. Eventhough the price margin has gone up a bit, it still remains to be the cheapest of the lot. 50$-60$(Less than Rs.3000) is the estimated price of this tablet. This is how the tablet would look with at $7(Rs.300) keyboard.
The specs are not so good, but its well worth for 50$. Here is how the rig works.

Dinosaur at my School!

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kanhangad - a school I kick started my education in India. Lots of memories hung up there, beautiful ones. It was just another weekend, I was spending my time at school for some reason. There was a Cricket match going on, and some serious contenders. I was watching the match up from the first floor, nice view.
The game started well, it was nice to see people dressed in blue and white, with proper cricket gears(hard to find in schools). The gallery(first floor) was sparsely occupied, and I was utilizing the luxury of it. But then suddenly the floor began thumping, and the building began shaking. Fearful of the earthquakes in Sikkim, I concluded it was an earthquake - OMG! An Earthquake hit me! Panic prickled my body, and the players in the ground started glaringly staring at what was going on.

TCS ILP - a makeup that thrills freshers?

Read my whole experience at TCS here - My life with TCS - a Walkthrough

June 16 to September 7, my hopes rose, my career was bright, my life seemed good. ILP, 60 days to be cherished, enjoyed, learn and grow. And yes, the promises given by TCS rose sky high. ILP put me out the fear I get when I Google - "TCS Reviews". I knew bench existed, but always believed performance could overthrow benches. If you look back my blog post, you'll see my overwhelming experience at TCS ILP. I never felt good being part of TCS, but September 7 made me feel proud being a part of the organisation. But what happened next? If you are a proud TCSer, better not go ahead.

With high spirits from the release of ILP, crowned as the Star of the Batch, I was having a very high morale. High aspirations, high expectations, and anxiety of first day at work. I spent my short vacation at Mumbai, with my family. Had to "Join" TCS on September 12, a day after I turn 22. I landed at Bangalore, a city which I knew had a promising future. We found out the offices to report that day itself, was proud to see Tata Consultancy Services hanging all over. Saw about 4 TCS offices en route to my place. But never I knew, how I would feel about this a week later.

Last day at TCS ILP

If anyone gets a better quality pic, let me know!

This post is addressed particularly to my friends. To others, this is what happened in our final day, details might be insignificant for you.
A memorable day it was, 7th Sep 2011. I can't stop myself thanking my friends before even beginning my post. But seriously guys, thanks a lot for making it a memorable one. It was a mixture of boring morning, surprising afternoon, thrilling and shocking evening, and an emotional departure. And it does'n end there, the late night travel made the experience even better. I guess I will split this article as mentioned above.

Boring Morning
6 30am - Me and my room mate were sound asleep, as we came to know that today would be a general shift for us(guessing it would be 9-6 am, we planned to get up late). But surprisingly, my friend Vikash Kumar, shook us up saying that the bus had already left at 6.15am. Dang! Bad starting to the last day! Then we began calling up the authorities, who informed us the next bus would be at 7.15. Omg! It was already 6.45! We rushed to freshen our-self, and then attired our-self in ethnic wear - Shirt and Mundu(Dhothi/Lungi)
So we kicked the journey to Peepul Park, our last journey in Suresh. Posing ourselves as proud ethnic dressers, we roamed around the Peepul Park. We(Me and Nakul specifically), were the Kings of the day - helping each and every one wear a Mundu. We took a glance at our buddy systems for one last time, and completed a few last minute responsibilities(which was a bit shocking, the HR informed a few of us that we had to resubmit the Offer Letter for some reason, and none of us were having a copy of it. But we managed to have one in the end). But after that, almost 2-3 hours of joblessness - moments that we urged ourselves to do some work which was not there.
We had our Onam Sadya at the canteen, not a very good one, but yes - for 28 Rs, it was too good! After the lunch, we had to wait till 2.30pm, when the Office boy came and informed us to gather at an auditorium.

The Number of the Beast - 666

666 is a number that has created so much presumptions in one's mind. Movies, novels and other haunting documentaries play with human emotions using such symbolism's. People start avoiding anything that relates to this number, or even sequence 6-6-6. Medical experts have also given a name to such fear - hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia.

But how has such fear effected us? It's been bothering me for a while, and there is a reason for it. This is how the satanic number 666 has been bothering me for the past few days.

It all started on 28th August 2011. It was a Sunday, but unfortunately I had to be at the office. We(Me and Nakul) took a local bus to Technopark, Trivandrum. Something caught my attention then. A Volvo(KSRTC) bus, which had the number 666 engraved on it was standing right in front of our bus. I did not mind it the first time. But then this bus continued bugging me, it was like at every bus stop, it would come and stop right in front of us. After a while we lost track of that bus, but then to my surprise, another Low Floor(Green KSRTC) bus came from the opposite direction with the same satanic engraving on it.

Wilder dreams of a citizens’ renaissance

By Manu Zafar

You can never have a revolution in order to establish a democracy. You must have a democracy in order to have a revolution.”
G.K Chesterton

As suns florid rays flash through the rusty windows of 'SAFIRE LODGE' , the daily news from the receptionist's transistor shouts out  'Anna Hazare' aloud. And yesterday too, I had had 'Anna ' for breakfast-lunch-and dinner. Iam forced to look beyond who this messiah is, for his movement  has definitely sparked the hidden sentiments of at least a fraction of Indians to protest the fallacies of their elected government. It showed the resilience of hope of a nation at the beginning, but has shrunk to  mere facade of a persons path to glory peppered with a crowd full of emotions bereft of any sense. The media seems to be in blazing love with the whole episode, that Anna has grown far beyond his  proportion onto an epitome of truth and justice. Now that we have seen, that a democratically elected government which does anything according to its whims and fancies can be challenged, shaken and woken up from the slumber it pretends to be in, it is high time to direct our creative energy to think freely and debate with reason - what we actually should do next.Take the case of Hong Kong and Singapore where the campaign against dishonesty was both a drive to generate wealth and a movement to impart values of honesty and responsibility within their respective public. As such, the citizens had direct stakes in the success of these programs. In many other cases, in Africa and elsewhere, anti-corruption campaigns were either disguised campaigns to purge political opponents, as some claim underlies anti-corruption campaigns in Nigeria and China.

Second phase of TCS ILP(New curriculum)

Read my whole experience at TCS here - My life with TCS - a Walkthrough

Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) has introduced a new curriculum for Initial Learning Program(ILP), an initiative to train the freshers. I am proud to say I belong to the pilot batch of this curriculum. It is good, and more towards real life simulations, unlike the old curriculum which fed you theory classes. Our batch commenced on June 16, 2011, and more details on my experience in TCS can be found here.
Details mentioned here is based on my experience at ILP Trivandrum in (Java)IT stream.

What's new?
In the previous curriculum, TCS followed a strategy of intense theory sessions. There were lots of theory sessions, in which every topic was covered. Apart from this, you have tests every now and then, in which you needed to overcome a certain percentage to get through. Also, you would not know your stream till the 30th day of training, and only then stream specific training is done.

Java Tutorial for Beginners : Part-2 First Java Program

Intro
Hope you have gone through my first tutorial on Java - Java Tutorial for Beginners : Part-1 OOP Concepts. All the points mentioned up there are very important, and should flow in you blood if you want to become a good Java programmer. But before implementing these concepts into your program, lets take a look at the basics of Java programming.

Requirements
To run C/C++ you install TurboC in your system to edit, compile and execute the program. Similarly any idea of what is required for Java? You only need to download and install the environment required for it(Of course you have tons of IDE's which will be put up later). So follow the steps to install JDK(Java Development kit) in your PC.

Java Tutorial for Beginners : Part-1 OOP Concepts

Preface
These tutorials will provide you a beginner's perspective of Java programming. The first few tutorials would be irrespective of programming language, but at the latter half, I would be stressing more on Web application development in Java. I am preparing these tutorials on the basis of my own experience of learning at TCS. Your suggestions and queries would help me build on this tutorial

Intro
OOP - A term that should flow in your blood if you have to be a good programmer. It is an essential perspective, visualization and an art to understand the concept as a whole. OOP concepts redefine our thoughts(in programming paradigm) and the way we code. The concepts are very easy in theory, but a bit difficult to grasp in real world scenarios. And once you master this perspective, coding in any language would be a piece of cake. So lets get to the basics first(Mind you, the theory is really simple. Its gets confusing when you try to implement these concepts)

OOP
I guess its high time that I mention what OOP is all about. OOP - Object Oriented Programming, is a programming paradigm using "objects" – data structures consisting of data fields and methods together with their interactions – to design applications and computer programs. - Wikipedia
Got any idea? Bet you haven't. Let me put it into simple words. Object Oriented Programming is
  • a way to code,
  • its an approach towards coding,
  • its an approach to problem solving,
  • is a real life simulation of programming methodology
Ring any bells? Well, you will be the end of this tutorial(Or atleast the next!)

New Facebook Ticker, a response to the awesome Google Plus Notification?

Yet another Facebook response to Google Plus. The Facebook ticker service has been rolling out for many users lately. And what is it? A service similar to the awesome Google Plus notification system, plus it has an advantage of live feed!

Singapore, LOKPAL BILL. Seriously? Or Another Facebook hoax?

In 1982, In Singapore, LOKPAL BILL was implemented and 142 Corrupt Ministers & Officers were arrested in one single day.. Today Singapore has only 1% poor people & no taxes are paid by the people to the government, 92% Literacy Rate, Better Medical Facilities, Cheaper Prices, 90% Money is white & Only 1% Unemployment exists.. Re Post this if you want to live in a corruption free country.. !!

I am coming across this atleast ten times a day. Does it make any sense? Yes, people do repost this in a spirit of patriotism. But again, are the stats right? I seriously doubt the legitimacy of this post.
So to dig in further on this, I Google'd Singapore Lokpal. The results gave me a feel that such a thing never exists(I am sorry, but I am totally unaware of such a bill). But then I found a few links which made me realise there exists such a bill. This was the best page that explained about Lokpal - rajeshgoradia.com.

Facebook is on top again, but where is Google Plus?

So after the Google Hype rocked the Internet, its going all silent again. The baby - Google +, has not grown much after its birth. Yes, a few things are happening over here and there, but not much. In the mean time, Facebook has come up with something, which is apparently the basis of Google+. With more privacy measures, and easier sharing, its certainly proving itself once again.

Google +
Google + rocked the virtual world. It was a buzz in every blog, magazine, social network and even on Facebook. Many portrayed it as the end of Facebook, and the initial stats was humongous! But what has happened after that? I personally have lost interest in Google+, and the last time I got in was to check in the new Games. Apparently, these games were not so popular among my friends as well, except to one peculiar friend. Any guesses? Take a look at the screen shots below
